Back in the early days of PCI Audio there was a company that offered sound solutions marketed towards gamers and musicians. Turtle Beach was known for their sound cards, specifically the Montego line of cards. Their first gaming card, the Montego A3D Extreme, utilized an Aureal Vortex 1 DSP that offered hardware direct sound Acceleration and support for Aureal’s A3D 1.0 API. Following the Montego was the Montego II, which garnered more fans due to the new Aureal Vortex II DSP. The Vortex II offered the same Direct Sound hardware acceleration and A3D 1.0 API’s but was more powerful and presented a new audio API. The new API was dubbed A3D 2.0 which was followed by A3D 3.10 a few months afterwards. On top of the new 3D Audio API came support for 4 speakers, allowing gamers to better immerse themselves in the game.
