Windows 10 May 2019 Update - users get more control

Users will be able to pause updates for up to 35 days after rollout. Microsoft is making some changes to the way that updates are delivered with the arrival of Windows 10 May 2019 Update. The corporation is taking a more cautious approach itself, and allowing end users to do the same, in most cases.

The Windows 10 May 2019 Update will start to roll out to most users in late May. However, next week it will roll out to the OS to its Insiders, extending the usual 'release preview' phase by several weeks. With the extra time that this software will be in testing circulation (its v1903 designation means it was finalised in March) it is hoped that any serious issues will be caught.

Acer Predator XB273K 144Hz 4K IPS Monitor Review

It's another 4K 144Hz display, this time priced at £1200 - is it worth buying?! The arrival of the all-singing, all-dancing Acer X27 came with lots of fanfare thanks to its inclusion of both a 144Hz 4K panel and a clever backlighting system that allowed it to produce truly stunning HDR pictures. The problem? Its astronomical price, around £1800. Enter the XB273K, which retains the high-resolution gaming delights of 4K at 144Hz but, thanks to its use of a standard fixed backlight, it demands a much more sensible price, relatively speaking. At £1200, it’s still a very expensive monitor so will need to seriously impress to justify a recommendation.

FSP Hydro PTM 650 W Review

The FSP Hydro PTM 650 W is a power-efficient design that's reasonably priced and looks nice. However, competition in this segment is strong and includes the Corsair RM650x and Seasonic Focus Plus Platinum and Gold.

Intel Xeon Cascade Lake Running Even Faster With Clear Linux

Following the initial launch benchmarks earlier this week of the Intel 2nd Gen Xeon Scalable "Cascade Lake" 8280 processors, I proceeded to run some benchmarks of different Linux distributions (operating systems) to ensure the Linux support panned out across the major platforms and while at it also comparing the performance between these different flavors of GNU/Linux. With this powerful Gigabyte Server sporting dual Xeon Platinum 8280 processors for a combined 56 cores / 112 threads, 12 x 32GB DDR4-2933MHz memory, and Samsung NVMe storage, Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS, Ubuntu 19.04 Beta, Fedora 29, CentOS 7, Debian 9.8, and Clear Linux were tested to look at the performance of the brand new Cascade Lake.

KDE Cantor - Sing me some math

It's been a long time since I used this phrase - it blinded me with science! So, here's a review of Cantor, a multi-purpose scientific statistics and analysis program, with support for multiple mathematics backends - Maxima, Octave, R, Python, and others, covering installation and configuration, syntax, 2D and 3D plots, speed and performance, various problems, and more. Have fun.

Samsung EVO Plus 512GB MicroSD Card Review

Samsung introduced its blazing fast EVO Plus UHS-I MicroSD cards last year, featuring capacities from 64GB to 256GB and write speeds approaching 90 megabytes per second. We were impressed with the 128GB sample we test drove, but Samsung has now expanded the lineup with a 512GB variant and sent one over to us for another look. The additional capacity is very welcome for videographers recording hours of footage. Granted, all that space is only useful if the card's write speeds are able to keep pace. The latest iteration advertises the same 100 MB/s read speeds and 90 MB/s write speeds as the rest of the lineup, but we want to see how it holds up in the real-world...

SteelSeries Stratus Duo Gamepad Review

Thanks to the dual-interface and internal rechargeable battery, you can go ahead and game in no time! We have tried quite a bit of games with it, including Dead or Alive 6 and Mortal Kombat XL. The controller is very responsive and feels comfortable thanks to its ergonomic shape; while we are not fans of playing games on such small screens like smartphones do have, we have paired the controller on our Android-based 4K Sony TV and ran games via Steam Link. Despite the Bluetooth connection, the extra lag this type of connection does introduce was barely noticeable and we were happy to game on a larger screen instead of staying in front of our desk.
