On October 25th, Microsoft unveiled WindowsXP in both a Home version catered towards the average consumer, and a Professional version intended for business class users. WindowsXP Home Edition, in particular, is a major shift from previous versions of Windows9x in that it is fully based off the NT kernel (as Windows 2000 was) and removes DOS entirely. Finally, a consumer version of Windows can claim to have extremely high stability, which is something any consumer can appreciate. XP also brings the first major enhancement to the user interface since Windows95. Instead of the traditional cascading menu style Start Menu, XP's menu uses a dual-pane approach that lists frequently used programs on the left, and common tools such as My Computer on the right. In continuing with the trend started by Windows Millennium, WindowsXP integreates digital media support directly into the operating system, making working with photos, video, and music very easy.
