"I finally got it to work. Had something to do with removing EZ CD Creator 5. "
I wouldn't doubt that... seems Roxio (with their mods to this fine former Adaptec product) is having some troubles with this tool, due to mods in the OS by MS (their own direct write-to-cd software built into XP for instance vs. DirectCD by Roxio).
I used to think it was the BEST THING OUT THERE for doing burning to Cd/DvD etc., but am considering other options myself!
"There were some registry entries that were causing some problems."
Really? That's odd... then again, I can see that. The installation of their software probably kicks out Ms' native Cdrw/DvDrw-ware etc. & wreaks havoc on apps that want to use it, or defaulted associations by other apps that want to access Dvd's for instance.
"I fixed it over a week ago so I don't exactly remember what I did other than reading something about DVD autoplay on the Roxio web site."
Probably a file association (Roxio probably assigns the insertion of a DvD with their DvdRw burnerware, overwriting the one used to play it automatically that MS assigns it, probably MediaPlayer 9... they assumed that folks want to do nothing but BURN DVDRW's, instead of play them as well upon the insertion of such a disk I am guessing, & they guessed wrong in your case it seems!).
"Screw Roxio, I'm going to Nero 6."
Everyone keeps telling me it is awesome, but I tried Nero in the past & because it is such a powerful tool (has tons of capability), that in older versions I found it complex to use, vs. Adaptec/Roxio EZ-CdCreator... which was VERY simple to use.
Right now, here at home, I use the tools that HP gave me to do that type of work (pretty simple stuff, but it works for both DvD-Rw & CdRw, but does not have NEAR the abilities the packages you mention have), but I will have to one day try both NERO &/or Ez-CdCreator again in their latest incarnations!
* Nero seems to work well in new Ms Os' like XP etc., but I recall early on that Adaptec/Roxio stuff did not, note my mention of DirectCD earlier... it upset me some, they slipped/messed up & had trouble correcting it. Sometimes, good things just have troubles or don't stay "good" anymore I guess!
