You need to download the patch from the official homepage, but after applying that it works fine.

I cant find a patch compatible with windows XP

The actual installer is not compatible with windows XP. I fixed it by installing the game in Linux (Knoppix should do) with WINE and copying over the game's folder into Windows Program Files directory. This has enabled me to play BoS in XP but with sped issues. Hope that hlps out.
