Dos game looks for VESA compliant 512k video card. UniVBE might work to fix this.

Well, if you have noticed, this is a DOS game from about the 486 PC aera, it has difficulties running on anything higher than Win98, even in compatibility mode. It will NOT run on WinXP proper, if at all. I know as I tried all.

There is one way sure to play it, if you have a multi OP loading system, load either the old DOS or Win95 on to your PC and play with that. I do so with most gameplay intact under Win95. Under DOS it does what it is supposed to do, sound might be an issue but there is hardly anything missing if you can not hear a sound.

This is on a AMD2600, ATI 9800 XT Pro video, 2GB DDR Ram etc.

The only problem is when running under Dos box the game can't find the Cd rom where it looks for the disk. If I play in XP as normal it slugish and the sound is very off, broken and crackly

Download DosBox

Type:

Mount c c:\games\conquest\
mount e e:\ -t cdrom
c:
cnwmain.exe -usecd

WHERE:
C:\games\conquest is my install directory
E:\ is my CDRom (Needs game CD to run). You may be able to mount an ISO, but never bothered as I have the disk.
and use cnwmain.exe rather than conquest.bat. Conquest.bat can cause the game to crash after 100ish turns.

I also found that changing the dosbox.conf file to 32mb (default 16mb) seemed to help with the crashing at the later stage of the game.

Remember to increase your cpu to 100% with ctrl + F12.
