Just use the "setwin95.cmd" that came with NT4 on "heavy gear 2.exe". Just go into the command prompt and navigate to the Heavy Gear 2 directory. Make sure "setwin95.cmd" and "imagecfg.exe" are in the directory. Type "setwin95 heavyg~1.exe" and then execute "heavy gear 2.exe". This should bypass the "Directx 6 not found" error. I'm using Windows 2000 Professional Final.

I love the game, sadly under XP it doesn't seem to work. If you run everything in compatibility mode it realizes the game is installed, but doesn't go any farther than that. I wish I could play it again.....

It works under xp, you need to download Microsoft application compatibilty toolkit 5.0., then use this tutorial as an outline for creating a patch to make it work under XP, just change the compatability mode to 98/ME.

Heavy gear 2 works with XP. Here's how:

You need to download Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.0 here:

Then use this tutorial as an outline for making a patch that will enable HG2 to work on XP. Just set the compatibility to 98/ME.
