I ran the first patch fine, and the second patch said that it found an older file of the same name, and that it did not perform any action. Still cant run it. Any help??

Having tried the fixes listed, the way to fix the problem for the sound is to do the following.

1. Open up your files in your hard drive. Click my computer - C drive - Program Files - Lucas Arts - SWKotOR2
2. Scroll down till you see the launcher icon
3. Right click on it
4 Click on properites
5 click on compatibilty tab
6 click run this program in compatibilty mode and put put the drop down screan do Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
7 make sure the following are also ticked
Disable visual themes
Disable desktop composition
8 click the apply buton.

your game should now work with sound. Happy playing and thank you to all the others for the advice.

Use the "Run As" feature when installing, even if the user has administration rights. For some reason it makes a difference.

Had problems with it, pure crash right after running; disabling sound helped, while switching Mss32.dll as advised solved it completely (without need of sound disabling).

I did the following (using german version):

1. Installed the game (obvious)
2. Downloaded the nocd fix
3. Disabled Sound and replaced the dll with the one posted above
4. Tried - didn't work
5. Disabled my speakers completely (as if no speakers would be installed)
6. Tried - didn't work

You need to run the game on compatibility mode and replace file Mss32.dll with this one ( http://files.filefront.com/Mss32dll/;6695046;;/fileinfo.html). Then the game works fine.

This works very good try it.

you dont need to compatibility mode.

working for my on a notebook with vista.

I have now tried to install this game on Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit edition.

The game does *not work* because of SecuROM (I have the origianl game!), so I had to download a NoCd executable.

When this was done, the KOTOR2 replaceable app. keep failing. Then U found this forum, and followed the instructions (disable sound).

Here is my todo list, based on my experience:

1. Install the game (obviuos).
2. SecuRom sucks - download the nocd fix, and override the existing kotor2 executable.
3. Go to the ALchemy X-Fi, and select the KOTOR2 application (because of the directsound), and add it to the game list. If you do not follow this step, your app. will crash!
4. Run the w. comp. mode for Windows XP and as Administrator.

Happy gaming :)

Don't read the above post, this game does not work at all under Windows Vista, the game will simply crash on start up.
The only way to fix this problem is to disable the sound in the start up menu under Configuration.

So far, no patch has been released to fix this issue.

The game crashes on startup. It does not detect my nvidia 7300 card as a nvidia 5200 or higher... this is with the latest patches.

While Star Wars: KOTOR 2 has no Windows 64 support officially it does run. Three things though, 1. run latest patch before playing. 2. Don't launch the game from the Autorun Launcher, it causes trouble in-game for the user. Use the original .exe file found in the game's directory instead. 3. Some people playing the game in Windows 64 might have issues with the game running in mirrored mode. With that, just go to the swkotor2.ini file and set the display and graphics option to Fullscreen=1 . And there you have it.
