directx 9.0 related to sims 2 question

sorry really weird title but didn't know how to put it.
alright here is the problem i downloaded directx 9.0 so i could play sims 2 well when i put in the sims 2 disc an error box stating that my driver isn't compatible with directx 9.0 comes up and terminates the game. what driver do i need to be able to play sims?
thanks for any help.

I had this problem as well... to solve it unfortunately I had to install a new graphics card in my computer... my old video card does not support directX 9c ... it seemed like an expensive solution but since I put it in everything works fine :0))
