ECS N8800GTS-320MX graphics card Review

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 02/12/2007 02:45 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

OCW posted an ECS N8800GTS-320MX graphics card review

The N8800GTS-320MX graphics card carries a full arsenal of NVIDIA's newest graphics utilities and features such as GigaThreadT Technology, LumenexT engine, and Quantum EffectsT Technology. The NVIDIA LumenexT engine drives the 16x anti-aliasing, 128-bit floating point HDR (high-dynamic range), fast frame rates and the highest resolutions currently supported on the market. Go ahead, bring your gaming experience up to a new level, or relax with your latest movies on HD DVD or Blu-rayT disc with NVIDIA's PureVideo HD technology.

ECS N8800GTS-320MX is something we anticipated for sometime. Today, we have seen its performance levels in comparison with the high end and mid range cards.

As we can see from the benchmarks, the results are impressive considering it a 299USD card versus the more expensive 8800GTX 768M card. In fact, in some benchmarks, we can see that this N8800GTS-320MX is definitely more worthwhile. In certain tests like high AA/AF, the performance is in between a ATi X1950Pro and X1950XTX. In our HQV test, it scored a high of 58 out of 130 points. It seems that the card's driver was not optimised for Film Cadence and Noise Reduction.

The packaging and bundle is quite simple. There are not bundled games. The package contains only the card, driver CD, the component cables for HDTV. The package only came with a leaflet with an installation guide.

When we received the card, we prepared a high powered PSU. At the end of the day, we used the 3 yrs old ANTEC true power 480W PSU to power it up. It works fine for a single card. Noise level is acceptable unless you increase it to full speed using nTune. In terms of overclocking, the card did pretty well I would say. We ran the core to 610 MHz and the GDDR3 to 1100MHz. In 3Dmark05, it registers a jump from 15019 (stock) to 16380 (oc). For 3DMark06, the jump is from 8639 to 10008. A 15% increase.

Overall, the ECS N8800GTS-320MX is probably one of the better buys if you intend to go for DX10 and performance at a fraction of the price.
