Elite Bastards preview: G70 unveiled - GeForce 7800 GTX technology preview

Transistor-wise, G70 is a behemoth, pure and simple. Although the way NVIDIA and ATI (and indeed other companies) count transistors is different, NVIDIA are touting G70 as a 302 million transistor part - I'm sure that it goes without saying that is a lot of transitors! For a more direct comparison of transistor numbers, NV40 weighed in at around 220 million.

Of course, this begs the question - Where are these extra transistors going? The most obvious cause of this transistor increase is the addition of another eight pixel pipelines, bringing us from 16 within NV40 to a massive twenty-four pipelines in G70, each of which contains its own full pixel shader unit.
