One of the more intriguing features that has sat in the shadows somewhat is the ICH6R southbridge and specifically Matrix RAID. RAID controllers are generally nothing special - in the last couple years they have been ubiquitous in nearly all midrange to high end motherboards. In few instances does a person need everything in RAID1 or RAID0 but Intel's implementation is noteworthy as it allows for two different RAID partitions to be defined on a single pair of hard disks making RAID a lot more practical for the average end user. We take a look at the setup procedure including moving documents to the mirrored partition as well as performance benefits and hits of Intel's Matrix RAID - a feature that may be one of the more important developments in storage technology in the past couple years.
