We can be honest about the target market for flagship cards; they are not going into the computers of average consumers but into the boxes of the hardcore early adopters. Flagship cards are not about common sense, they are about having the best piece of hardware you can get a hold of. Price is almost secondary. It is a bit rare these days to see companies really go out on a limb and not just put out a reference design card. Gainward really embraces this enthusiast philosophy with both their Goldensample and their watercooled solution. Big props to the engineering department at Gainward. Hopefully we will see this trend continue not only with Gainward but with some of their competitors.
