Unlike GoogleTalk, or other chat programs, Skype has the ability to make calls to landlines and vice versa (SkypeOut and SkypeIn respectively). Although these services charge, the cost for a full year is about the same as 1 month’s cell phone bill. As its popularity has increased, so has third party support, with companies like Logitech producing Skype handsets and wireless phones.
