VIA Hardware has posted a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card FAQ
I have a Via chipset motherboard; why should I get the Santa Cruz instead of the SB Live!?
If you own a SBLive! and are experiencing the following symptoms:
Sound crackling
DMA issues
Sporadic system hangs
then you have a good chance of alleviating these issues by changing your sound card to a Santa Cruz. In addition, the card also has several key features that render it a more robust and stable solution fit than the Live! line:
PCI 2.1 compliancy
no necessity to adjust PCI latency
a properly implemented digital-out (the Live! digital out is broken)
a 10Db S/N ratio increase which results in improved sound quality
much more solid driver support
