SIS 755 Ref Board Review

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 11/26/2003 11:49 AM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

OCWorkbench has tested the SIS 755 reference board against all major chipsets

We have seen a number of Athlon 64 board reviews on OCW. ALi M1687 Reference board, Gigabyte K8NNXP (nForce3), Gigabyte K8VNXP (K8T800), BIOSTAR K8VHA Pro (K8T800) and BIOSTAR iDEQ 200P (nForce3). This time round, we will take a look at another Athlon 64 chipset - SiS 755.SiS 755 is probably the second chipset that features a South Bridge supporting SATA RAID 0/1/JBOD through SiS 964. The board fully complies to HTT of 16 bits up/down at 800MHz. Some of the other chipsets don't support that fully which resulted in a slightly slower performance. Coupled with a proprietary 1GB MULTIOL link between the North and South bridge, this is a wider pipe compared to some other designs. The HyperTransport™ interface of SiS755 features the HyperTransport™ complaint bus driver technology to support AMD Athlon™ 64 / Opteron™ processors up to 1.6GT/s data rate. SiS MuTIOL® technology is developed into three layers, the Multi-Threaded I/O Link Layer delivering 1.2 GB/s bandwidth to connect embedded DMA Master devices and external PCI masters to interface to Multi-Threaded I/O Link Layer, the Multi-Threaded I/O Link Encoder/Decoder in SiS964 to transfer data with 1GB/s bandwidth from/to Multi-Threaded I/O Link Layer to/from SiS755, and the Multi-Threaded I/O Link Encoder/Decoder in SiS755 to transfer data with 1GB/s from/to memory sub-system to/from the Multi-Threaded I/O Link Encoder/Decoder in SiS964.SiS 755 also incorporates The latest HyperStreaming™ Engine (HSE) by SiS Technology is exactly developed for users that have strong needs for bandwidth and speed. The HyperStreaming™ Engine optimizes the performance of the entire computer system. It smartly manage the data streaming to flow effortlessly from the peripherals to the core logic chipsets, between the North and South bridge and to the front side bus, memory and graphic interface. This greatly improves the total performance, which traditional technologies lag behind.
