If I had to make a list of IT markets ripe for new product entries, strong margins, and weak barriers to entry, I'm not even sure the RAM market would make my top 10, which is why I'm surprised to see Ultra Products (makers of
the XConnect PSU we reviewed in January ), taking a shot at the memory industry. In the past five years, the high-end "luxury" RAM market has exploded; a plethora of manufacturers now battle for a tiny scrap of market share. Margins on the luxury DRAM are certainly much higher than on the mainstream DRAM parts, but competition is fierce and the players are well-established. From Corsair and OCZ to Kingston and Crucial, memory manufacturers large and small are willing to fight for the high-end market.
