VDMSound 2.0 Alpha 3

Posted by Philipp Esselbach on: 04/25/2001 03:07 PM [ Print | 0 comment(s) ]

A new alpha version of VDMSound 2.0 is out.

VDMSound is a package that overcomes some of the limitations of DOS boxes under Windows NT 4.0, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. More specifically, it aims to offer adequate sound support to any DOS applications (utilities, games, etc.) running under Windows NT 4.0+.
As of this version, VDMSound emulates an MPU-401 interface (for playing MIDI music) as well as a SoundBlaster 16 card (for PCM sound effects).

Changes:
This version (2.0.3, alpha) features Microsoft Installer technology for smooth product installation, removal and upgrading. It also seamlessly integrates with Windows Explorer, bringing your old favourites literally within two mouse clicks from running with sound. This unique feature allows you to enjoy the classics without spending any of your valuable time changing directories, setting environment variables or tuning memory settings. Other additions include:

emulation support for up to two joysticks;
the ability to specify custom .ini files for multiple VDMS configurations;
the ability to search for the various configuration files in the system PATH if they are not found in the current directory;
the ability to invoke dosdrv from any directory on your machine at any time.
