Question about XP SP1a

Whats the easiest way to tell whether an XP system is running Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 1a if both still have the MS JVM installed? The System Properties still say Service Pack 1 and the System Information tool shows both the SP1 machine and the SP1a machine as having the same version of XP.

cloning xp with ghost 2003

I need a little help. I am Building a new cpu for my mother in law. I did a fresh install of xp pro on her hard drive. But drive is too small (3. 1 gig wd) so I used norton ghost 2003 to a bigger drive, but now the new drive will only boot to starting window screen with no user buttons to log on to.

No, that's not a typpo, a friend has a computer dated 11/94 that lists a Z. I. F. local bus for the Motherboard. It goes on to describe it as allowing you to upgrade your system in the future as oppose to replacing it.

There is a fantastic feature in Windows 2000 where u can set an IP on a jet direct box on a HP Printer and then print directly to it without the need to create a queue on Netware or NT Server, which we use here in the University to manager our printing needs.

Since I migrated to 2KPro some time ago, I can't remember how to uncover all the system function and programs that might be running in the background of Win98 machines.

Workaround for IE "input type crash" bug

It is known that the single line of <input type crash> would crash IE, and this is due to a syntax error induce bug in IE. Try inculding the <body> tag into the page, such as: <html><body><input type crash size=20></body></html> The problem apparently gone.

i did an windows update. now i have to use user accounts to get to the desktop. before i just started up and it went to the desktop. now i have to logon to get to the desktop. i`m the only user so i don`t need to logon.

Ok anytime I print anything if I run a program or load IE or open up My computer and any other window I get a message that the Lexmark printer is not communicating or lost connection. I am using the latest drivers.

Give me a Linux box and I can set up a network. . . . windowsXP is a different matter. Is there a way to give user based access to different directories between XP Home and XP Pro? I know I cannot use domains with home so that option is out.

My backup HDD at work has picked up some bad sectors and i can't even ghost from it. i just need 1 folder out of it though!!! is there any data recovery programs that could recover sector 0? thanks in advance (Have tried Scandisk).

ahoyhoy, im trying to network a printer (HP Laserjet 1200) between two computers running win2kpro. im also running winroute pro, and when i try to add the printer on the client comp, it gives me an error saying: could not connect to the printer.

Taskbar & start menu hidden in XP and can't activate

Running XP, the taskbar and start meun are hidden as the autohide is checked, but isn't. Just by moving the cursor to the lower part of the destop doesn't make it scroll up as it should. I tried the end task and new task in Task Manager for Explorer trick that works in 2k, but it didn't here.

Undeletable directory... Please help!

I recently cancelled an unzip operation in PowerArchiver and now I cant delete the directory it made; the best explination I can come up with is I dragged the file with the right mouse button and clicked Extract to <name of zip>.
