What WINS Address do I use on a simple twin pc network?

Hi, I am still confused about the use of a WINS address on a simple pc to pc network. No hub, just crossover cat5 cable. Two NICS on the gateway and one on the other. I use NAT ICS to share my cable connection and was wondering what address do I put in the WINS field? Do I just use my Static IP from the first NIC? ...

Well, I'm thinking of going to a dual system on my test box. I've been reading up, but I'm still a bit off on all of it. Mainly I'm concered with the stepping. I've heard the Abit VP6 has to have both cpu's as the exact same stepping.

This is not a tweak per say just some info that I didn't know and figured others didn't know as well. Windows 2000 defaults to a maximum of 256meg of paged pool memory and defaults to a maximum of 340meg of nonpagedpool memory The only way around this limitation is to boot with the /3GB switch enabled.

I just installed the adaptec aspi drivers (v. 4. 60) and I ran the aspi check prog and it says I have all the right files and the latest version but it also gives me an error saying it failed to initialize the aspi layer.

I added another server to the network, installed active directly, then added dns. Everything is ok. If I goto browstat status however, it doesn't show as a backup browser. . . I have this in the event log.

The customer needs animations done in this DOS based dinosaur but in Win2000 the beast won't run from the command prompt. Is there a work-around or are we stuck in 'dual-boot heaven' due to NT restrictions, again? Any ideas?.

Installing 95/98 games with compatibility update

I'm sure this forum has talked about using the Application Compatibility Update to trick the software into thinking that Win2k is either 95, 98 or NT. However, I installed the lastest compatibility update, but can't do what the Win2k FAQ talked about.

CS Server Connecting Issues

I've never had a problem with CS before, but just recently for reasons beyond my comprehension when I try to connect to a server now, it gives me like UDP port errors, saying WSAECONNECT problems trying to open ports 27015 etc.

Hello. I have been using Diskeeper to defrag my hard drive. In the last 4 days I have defraged it 4 times. After it defrags I get the report, the report reads as this. Findings on C: Diskeeper has completed a defragmentation run on this volume and there remain 5 fragmented files and 2386 excess file fragments.

Ok, I have a feeling that the only way to correct this is to reinstall the OS but being that is a rather drastic move I hoped the knowledgable people in this forum might have some suggestions. I have a peer to peer network setup using a Linksys 4 port router using DHCP.
