Installing XP RC1 - Advise please.

Hi folks, I got my RC1 CD today so shall be installing it when I get home. I use Windows 2000 Pro at the mo. Question is should I format and clean install XP or will the upgrade be ok? Not to sure on this one as a m8 installed one of the Betas and had problems upgrading from Windows 2K.

hello Anybody know how to get this printer to work, i got nt4 drivers which worked on Win2k. . but not on the later builds of winxp. . i can't find any drivers that DO work. . pppplease try to help.

3rd party Firewall for XP?

Ok, RC1. . . . Can't really use XP's own firewall as its not very configurable. I had ZoneAlarm Pro 2. 6 on build 2495, but it kept crashing. Also heard that BlackIce Defender is a little unstable too.

I'm curious as to what settings would be best for XP. I must admit that the default settings are a HELL of a lot better then any Win 9x default settings but I just wanted to get an idea from you longer using Win 2k/XP users.

I run both ZoneAlarm and Black Ice on my system. At home, on dial-up, they work flawlessly. The problem is at school. The college uses a Token Ring network, and although both programs see my internet traffic, neither one sees attacks/probes/etc.

After the first reboot, after it asks if I have any 3rd party SCSI controllers, it says Starting Windows XP. But then it just stays at that screen forever. The numlock light won't even go off (good test to see fi your computer is frozen).

I am having a problem installing Nero Burning Rom 5. 5 on RC1. I get to the 'Setup users group' screen and nothing happens. I can't click continue and have to cancel the install. I tried installing in WIN2K Compatability mode and still no luck.

Can't boot up W2k, blue screen HELP!

I uninstalled the drivers for my ORB disk drive and restarted. Windows found the ORB drive when I booted up again, and started to install the drivers. Something went REAL bad, causing the system to power off.

Can't install RC1!

No matter what I try I can't get RC1 installed. Right after the first file copy process, just as it's about to go into the GUI section of the setup, it just goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (I waited 25 minutes).

Yep, the start menu (and some different things) just works sometimes. . . . Run, Search and Help and Support doesn't always work. . . Well, I don't care about help, but I hate that none of 'em work more than 1/15 times.

Ok I knwo that there are not many mpeg2 cards that work in win2k so what I am thinking of doing is installing win98 minimal install on my win2k system and getting a good mpeg2 card that works well in win98.

I was looking around today and saw that newegg. com had 256mb of PC-2100 and PC-133 for $37 USD and with $7 shipping on the PC133 and $5 on the PC-2100 you can't go wrong. .
