Haven't you noticed that all of the questions asked here are all about Windows 2000 and the errors it has or is given out to people. Some games don't work, hardware doesn't work, BSOD, illegal operations, sudden changes in the OS. Just goes to show that the OS isn't very good. I "was" using Windows 2000 awhile ago and got rid of it because it simply stinks. I rather have better compatibility in return for the odd error or two, then have a stable OS and nothing working right. That's why it's stable, cause they made sure next to nothing works on it, they "babied" it to get it working right. Crappy apps, games and hardware support, but it's stable. Now i like Windows 2000 because of it's features, but if w2k is not going to run programs well then forget it. There was only 1 program, one that i use a lot, called RPGMaker 95. I was done testing all of my games and apps with windows 2000 and discovered they all ran, last proggy on the list was RPG Maker, go to start it, doesn't work. Because of 1 program not running, which happened to be the one i use a lot, i had to uninstall windows 2000.

edit!!
although I don't believe this anymore, it's still funny to see this post. I shouldn't have edited it, oh well...lol

Whistler is or will be better than Windows 2000, if you don't think so, get a reality check and hope it doesn't bounce.

Ok. DavidNewbould is right. Windows 2000 sucks... I found the ultimate OS... Windows 3.1... it is so amazing fast on my PIII... only DirectX and my games doesn't work but the OS is great

PCTOOLS? I prefer the Norton Utilities. Now they are back on my PC.. Symantec released last months Norton Utilities 2001 for Windows 2000

PC-DOS 1.0 is funny. I tried it 10 years ago on my 286 AT. It even does not support hard disk drives

Hey inferno.... in your system spec, you say you have 384mb ram, 393 listed. I'm willing to bet that that the "393mb listed" was really 393,216 kb ram. That's because 1mb = 1024kb, so 384mb = 384*1024 = 393,216kb. just a little fyi...

I think 286 was 120ns.

PCTOOLS??? That sound kinda familiar but I forgot what it was meant for. And btw, DosFreak, I like your 286, sounds pretty high tech! . I suppose it came with a 12" monochrome (meaning green color only) IBM screen? Or did it came with that high-end 16 colors VGA one? haha

Yeah, I can't remember the speed of the ram. That was before my hardware days. I was a software freak. Didn't become software/hardware till '95. Ah well, I guess when I go visit my cousin I'll check up on mu ol' 286.

12 years ago: 80386!
15 years ago : 80286!
The original IBM PC AT was released in 1985 as far I remember. It was powered by a 8 MHz 80286 that I overclocked to 12 MHz (change of quartz)!!!
Memory: 2 megs of 80 ns dil chips, of which 1 meg of paged extended memory.
HD: 40Mo.
Video: Hercules monochrome 720x348 if I remember.
OS: MsDos 4, then 5 with dosshell.
Pcshell/Pctools was a must at that time.
Favorite programming language was TurboPascal. I wrote my first fractal generator in 1985. Incredibly fast with a separate 80287 math coprocessor : a whole day to draw a Mandelbrot set with 256 iterations!
Good olde time
