i want to get rid of win2k system file protection, now!

i cant get rid of the system file protection in win2k, i tried to copy the file into dllcache directory but it bloody gets replaced there to! how to get rid of that anoying protection? for ever! //Silent.

Lost left channel

When W2KPro is booting, the Windows. wav plays fine; ie. . . . left and right channels. When any other wav. plays after boot-up, the left channel drops out and/or to hear the left channel the balance control must be shifted way to the left.

I know this is a minor question, but: How can I Export my desktop Scheme to another pc or back it up in case i need to format or something? are the themes in a file or something? I haven't been able to find that file.

Have just moved from Win98Se to 2000-Pro. As part of the upgrade (?), networked my two PCs through a LinkSys Router/Gateway, with the general purpose being some file and printer sharing, but primarily broadband sharing.

Hey everyone, this is my first post here so I hope you all can help me out. Im trying to install win2k SP1 onto a newly built comp. Its a Duron 900 on an Abit KT7-a with 128MB Infineon RAM, a Maxtor DiamondMax 20gb 7200 rpm HD, and an ati pro 32MB video card.

XP RC1 wont shutdown or restart

It did it when I first installed it, then 2-3 days later it stopped. It just says Windows is shutting down. Used to take about 5 seconds to be off totally. Now it just sits there with that message. Does the same for 'Restart' or 'Shutodwn'.

i upgraded xp to rc1. all went well and then the next day i booted into xp and got the blue screen with unmountable_boot_volume message whats the best way to fixing this problem? thanks.

Hi I was experiencing some network slowness on my home network, one machine with XP RC1/WinME dual-boot, the other computer runs just ME. I decided to play around with some of the Services in XP, and now I can't connect to the internet at all.

Ok. . i've seen some similar posts. . anyhow my system freezes up completely right where it's 'saving settings'. it always seems to happen with 6mins left in the install process. i'm running this on a athlon500, 192megs of ram, 40gig ibm deskstar (installing to a 3gig partition for winxp).

Win2000-Pro. APM turned off at Bios level. Screen saver set for 10 minutes, monitor Shut down and HD Shut down set from within Control Panel's Power Option at 20 minutes and 30 minutes respectively. After about 4 hours, hit space-bar to bring up screen.

Is there anyway inside Win95/98/ME/NT/2000 to change the default font for dialog box and Control Panel boxes, etc, you know the fonts that do not appear in title bars or on a icon or as a tool tip, for example go to device manager and look at the text, it is in default MS Sans Serif, I hate this stupid default can ...

REALLY stupid question, but I somehow deleted the show desktop icon and it's gone. GONE for good. Can anyone tell me where the icon is located in Win2K PRO, and what I can do to get it back? It's so bloody useful, I can't live without it.

Is there any way to include a background image when you have to log into win2K? I am looking for the effect as changing winnt256. bmp under NT4. 0. Unfortunately under win2K the winnt256. bmp file is the background image shown during bootup, which is protected under system file protection.

XP Power Button Shutdown Problem!!!

Ok, on both my Desktop and my Laptop whenever I press the Power Button to Shutdown I always get a message saying that there is a User logged on (Me) and you'll dump them, do you wish to continue? Is there *any* way to turn this off, it's driving me nuts! It's done this to me on 2419, 2495, and 2505 RC1 Please Help! ...

Clear last user name in Win2K

Is it possible to clear last user name in the Win2K logon prompt? Easy to do in NT4 via a registry tweak or using tweakui. Trying the same in Win2K has no result. I look after a NT4/Win2K network where most of the users are students, and I feel it is a better idea to clear the last user name.
