Slowwwwww Modem Port Speed

DooDiddley
Hi folks. I'm having a weird problem with my modem port speed. I'm using a 3Com US Robotics 56k Voice Faxmodem (EXT) with Windows 2000 Pro. When I dial in, I connect anywhere between a whopping 7. 2 kbps and 115200.

Registry: Memory Management

Ron_Jeremy
Looking at the following key in the Registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet001\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management I am baffled at why the SecondLevelDataCache parameter is defaulted at 512(K).

NTFS and automatic disk checks?

GTwannabe
Back in the days when I used FAT32, if Win2k would bluescreen and crash, it would automatically schedule a disk check. With NTFS, it never does a startup disk check. Is there any way to force the system to do disk checks if it isn't shutdown properly? I ask because if I startup with a dirty disk, the system hangs f ...

Booting 2K with Numlock ?

marek94
Hi, I think I'm not the only one in the world who is wondering how to tell Win 2000 to toggle on NumLock. Everytime Win 2K boots up it turnos off the Numlock status. However I'd like to have it turned on so that it doesn't need to be done manually each time you boot up and log-on.

HDD Space

MrSlinky
I had a lot of files in a single folder that were not necessary anymore and so I deleted them. Now come the problem. My drive is 16. 0GB in size and I deleted about 700 files totaling ~10GB because I was down to about 2GB of free.

Never Dial a Connection

mickbench
We have 1400 Win 2000 Laptops that use dial up networking to logon to the our network. They do this from the CTRL ATL DEL Screen. This is so that is maps network drives, logon scripts etc. . . Problem is, GP sets up Internet Explorer proxy.

which file system is more efficient for windows, NTFS or FAT

shassouneh
Hi all, just wondering. APART FROM ADVANCD SECURITY AND INDEXING FEATURES avilable in NTFS, is NTFS a better file system than FAT32 in terms of stability, and / or speed ? Is NTFS or FAT32 more efficient? I have noticed that NTFS seems to be less prone to corruption in files and directories as FAT 12/16/32 (vfat) is.

Permission a la Win2k

mote
Using Windows XP Professional: Is there a simple way to setup permissions and user access? Perhaps the same way as Win2k? Is it possible to share a folder, allowing access to various network users but not the entire network? I have not been able to find this functionality in WinXP.

Defragging slowed my system down...otay

Brian Frank
Specs in sig (as usual). The Imperial Star Destroyer takes forever to boot up in XP. I know this uses 5400RPM drives, but gimme a break. I defragged 2 partitions, C:\ being one of them. I'd also noticed a slow down before going to XP under 2k.
