Installing and Rundll

Every time I install new programs, Norton tells me this very irritating message: Rundll is trying to access the internet. I do not want this function at all, how do I get rid of it ? I want to update my drivers and stuff manually only.

How do I get rid of the irritating Rundll is trying to access the internet message when I try to install new programs ? I have Windows XP home. I do not want that function at all. (Sorry, wrong forum, couldn`t delete) Andrew.

DOS 8+3 Character names

Hiya all, I disabled 8+3 dos filenames, and have since realised that my damn scanner needs it activated to work. I know how to re-enable it, but how do I make windows go back and set names for all files on the system in this format? It doesn't seem to do it unless you re-create the file.

IE favorites

I just put XP on my pc. I tried to import my favorites, backed up on cd, into IE only to be told that I don't have permission to install into that folder. See admin. for permission. I AM the admin. Someone had suggested that I copy the file & paste it into the favorites folder.

internet connection need help

i just install win2k and when i try to surf the web IE says i am not connected but i have cable if i click on try again i then have no problem how do i tell win2k i am allways connected i have the setting on lan and every thing works it just when i start IE i all ways have to hit try again

DOS - NT vs DOS - 2000

is it possible to upgrade DOS as included w/NT 4 to make it behave as the DOS included with Windows 2000. String features don't appear to work the same. .

I have read all the documentation I can find on this issue but I havent come across this one. Let me know if someone has seen this and knows what to do about it. I have created a bootable cd rom, with Win2k and sp2 slipstreamed into it, following the directions I found here.

Hello everyone, I am looking for a way to burn a new XP cd which will include SP1 when I install. I have seen the article on doing this for Windows 2000 and just want to make sure the process is the same or that maybe there is a different way to do this.

Moved to Correct Forum: I am having some of the instability problems I would read about i. e. Infinite Loop, lots of BSOD, etc. So I read that loading the new VIA 4. 37 Drivers in the hope they would solve some of my stability problems.

How do I alter the information in the System Properties - General tab? You know, where the system displays a windoze logo and states the following: System: Whatever Registered To: Some ahole COmputer: This is where OEMs put thier info and logo, I'd like to do the same.

Spent a good 12 hours making this too, mostly researching how to do certain things. On the left side, you see the icons, My Computer, My Documents, etc. . What I did, was extract the icons from the programs executable, or from shell32.

Default IE 5.5 Save directory ?

Not really a Win2k question, as much of an IE 5. 5 question, but does anyone know a way to change the location of the default save when downloading a file through IE ? It's such a pain in the butt to have to navigate to my download directory each time.

Broken search

help me! search is broken! i'm talking about the file search in winxp. i was messing with some tweaking proggy and it did summat silly to the search feature. i've tried changing it to work like the win2k search but its still stuffed.

I would like to create a custom install CD for XP, basically just the original with a few extra utils that I use included on the CD for ease of access. However, I cannot find a boot image of the XP CD.
