slow startup

hi all, winxp starts up pretty fast (~30secs). . . my problem is that right after startup and i open the start menu and go to the Connect To menu (or do anything network related), it doesn't display anything and the system just freezes for about 1 min or so(but not hang - i can move the mouse).

win2k/win9x/me networking slowdown

just curious, is this just a win2k(nt?) 'feature', but when i browse the network and access a machines list of shares, it takes a notibly long time to get a responce. iv reinstalled windows a number of times on both machines, and yet refreshing/loading either are slow.

processor priorities for apps

I noticed my website lately gets a bit slower when its in heavy use. . . (duh. . . lol) and I know that its just some of the php and database stuff. . . then html loads fast. . . how do I make my php stuff and database server use the processor at high priority? because it seems it has to wait.

How to disable c drive access under windows NT

Just wondering if there is a way to disable people from saving files to the local hard drive. My setup is Windows 4. 0 Server and Windows 4. 0 Workstations that people log on to the domain. I've set up policies and the accounts, but I didn't see anyway to prevent local file system access.

Free Hotfix checker from MS

I just saw this at MS, it's a free hotfix checker that can scan systems on a network and determine what these machines have installed on them. Just thought you guys might be interested. I know this isn't quite as cool as the product from St Bernard that Toby mentioned, but hell, it's free.
