Finally I figured out what the problem with slow shared file network access is between XP and Win98 / ME computers - It's a new microsoft service/ protocol called WMI. If you don't have WMI enabled, getting file lists from remote computers will take FOREVER.

The more I use Windows XP Pro, the more I dislike it. Where is the Permission and user access for drives and folders under XP. I also do not see a Security tab. All I can do is select to share the folder but can not put any restrictions on it.

I am trying to Network in XP. Ok here is the setup Win2k = Comp2 WinXP= Comp1 Comp1 and 2 goes into my Linksys BEFSR41 router. Comp 2 locates Comp 1 less then a second. But however I have my printer and my cdrom for sharing, I keep getting an error about not being able to connect.

Has anyone figured out how to get BOTH a windows 2000 Pro and a Windows XP pro to see each other on a LAN, let alone communicate? NONE OF THE TWO PCS can see each other to begin with. They are on the same workgroup, and when they where both win2k machines they worked without a hitch.

While trying to play StarCraft over network, my computers aren´t able to find each other. I´ve read somewhere, that the solution to this is disabling RAS and Routing. Where are the options to disable these settings? I´m not able to find them.

I have Win2k running on two machines and WinXP running on a third. They're all networked through a router I have setup and can see each other and share files fine. The only problem I have is password protecting the WinXP computer.
After boot up, DSL is slow to conect . Why?

Everithing works great. I got DSL. If i want to connect to internet no prob. but imediately after boot up, i must wait about 30sec or so before trying to conect to internet. It doesn't crash or anything, just doesn't connect until 30sec or so have pased, then no probs.

Ok, so I have my win2k box setup with FTP software. Using the D-LINK DI-704 for shared DSL, I configured it so I have port access for port 21. My roomate is attached to the switch. His is in the same workgroup/IP and he has a 'shared' folder that I can see from my computer.

I have a bit of a networking problem. . . I have 2 computers, with an NIC each. One is an AMD, and the other is a pentium 3 (for reference). Anyway, the Pentium 3 has a Linksys LNE100 Fast Ethernet Adapater (10/100).

i got a network with 2 computers, running windows xp. The server is connected to the internet throughthe built in PPPOE of winxp. I'm using ICS to share the connection with the client as i didn't find any program that is compatible with winxp yet.

Hi all again. . . recently I'm plagued with a trouble on an NT4sp6 machine that I've to mantain (albeit for not much time. . . ): the box runs IIS 4 to host a site, but every hour or so the service stops.
