LAN Design - Please Reply

Micheal
I am the Network Administrator for a public school district in Texas. I'm currently designing the layout for our new LAN. I would like anyone's opinions or comments on the best way to go about this. First, I will present our current configuration, followed by two possible solutions.

Does anyone know what could cause a print spooler service in Win2000 server to stop? rogue program or virus?? it's just wierd that it only happens when I have gone home. The next morning (7:30am) I have to restart the service up again.

Secure internet tunnelling?

GTwannabe
The school network that I use has banned Napster and Napster-like programs. Networking monitors the ports that those programs use. Basically, no download utility programs for me or I'll get kicked off the network.

Seeking "Virtual" Dial up over Cable solution...

ancker
At work we are behind Corporate firewalls and proxies. So all machines, including our servers are part of a larger WAN. Which are not accessible from the outside internet. We do have a Dial-up system so various users are allowed to dial in directly to the network.

Dial up logon to domain with XP

mabuhay
We've got an XP client on Win NT 4 server network. She logs on fine when on the LAN, can get to all the correct folders, internet, etc. When she dials up from outside the office, the shared folders that are supposed to get mapped during the logon script don't get mapped, and she can't get to the internet at all.

This doesn't make sense

ryoko
I returned to a peer to peer network I worked on last week to find the winXP machine disabled the nic. The computer has a modem and also a network card. After a connection to the isp over the modem, suddenly the nic (a cnet pro200wl) attached to the internal lan stopped working.

Networking between 2 2k systems thru a router

videobruce
Two computers through a router running 2k and all I can see is the other computer, no drives! I have the drives set up through my computer as shared but under computers near me only the computer name shows and printers and scheduled tasks in that! What am I missing? No passwords are used, same workgroup.

Thunder
Suddenly for some reason I no longer have any control over my connections. From the folder I can't connect, view properties, make changes, nothing. No error messages but when I click something nothing happens.

Print Rationing

catch22
I work in the Computer science Department at Millersville University. Currently the university has a huge problem with wasting money on printing supplies for their computer labs. More or less due to the overwelming amount of printouts that students produce in the course of the semester.

'Switch' Talk

ViperZ2000
Can someone explain the data rate for a 10Mbit switch and a 100Mbit switch? Basically I need to show someone here beside me that a 10Mbit switch can pass XXX amount of data per second (in MB's). We are in a heated discussion and I need for someone else to confirm it.

What router to buy?

dcxman
Morning all! I'm in the market to purchase a switched router. I was looking recently at the Cisco 1604R ENET 4 port router switch. I just need to set up a 3 class room (computer lab) environment using NAT.

Behind NAT

Gorm
I'm trying to set up a Hotline server but my ISP is using some NAT-Router so people can't connect to me by using my public ip. Is there a way to get around this by using som software like Dns2go(doesn't seem to work)?.

Ldap

ryoko
Is anyone familiar with LDAP? I'm connecting to a remote server, and some of my clients (nt and 9x) will crash immediately when trying to search the ldap directory. I use outlook 2000 to get the ldap info from the server.
