OT: GDI objects

You familiar with XP's task manager? Ctrl-Shift-Esc. Under View, select columns, add GDI objects to the list. THen sort by GDI objects. Is anything using a ton fo GDI objects? The more GDI objects a program uses, the slower your system will be.

Don't use DISKEEPER 7!!!

This is NOT A FINAL PRODUCT! The one I got was a beta and wasn't labeled as such, I ended up corrupting my RAID array and had to reformat. I didn't know the problem was Diskeeper 7 at the time and proceeded to reinstall it only to have my system corrupted again.

Short Term ICQ fix

Found this little tidbit out on another Windows XP forum, so I thought I would relay what some lucky chap has found out regarding the ICQ menu's disappearing behind the ICQ 2000b window. Simply turn of Always on Top on the Main Menu > Contact List Options.

How to view old registry

I have my registry from a previous install of win2k backed up on my HD. . . how do I view it so I can copy stuff out of it? When I try to open it with Regedit, it tries to overwrite my existing registry with that one.

partition magic and xp

ok heres the deal. . . I have partition magic 6 and win XP (2600). I know that my version of partition magic 6 is meant to be only for win NT and win 2000 but i got it working using compatability mode.

McAfee webscanx error in 2000

I just installed McAfee and I get an error saying that an error has occured in webscanx and is shutting down. I can't enable my email or download scanning. I tried reinstalling, uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the entires in the registry all to no avail.

Help !!!!!!!!!!!!! When I check mail, I get the error message saying Msimn. exe has generated an error and will be shut down, you should restart the program. That's what I do, and at the very moment I click on the Send/Check messages button, the box pops up and the program is shut down after a few seconds once again.

CD Burning

I have XP RC1 (Haven't gotten any info on RC2 yet). I was trying to make a CD using my Samsung 12X CD-R. It said the CD was created successfully (using explorer). But, when I go to my computer it shows as blank.

Power DVD 3

Hi all, I have been using DVD Genie 3. 33 to change the region setting on PowerDVD from Region 2 to Region 1 and back so I can watch my DVD's on my computer from both America and Europe. Is there another program or an update that'll work in XP with PowerDVD 3 to change Region settings or even a registry hack ?.

Windows Update, The First Visit ..

Whenever i install Win9x, 2K or NT. . the first visit to windowsupdate i allways have the option of Downloading (for example) Swedish Menu's and Dialogues for Internet Explorer, amoungst a whole lot of other languages for IE.

Downloading more than 2 files @ once in IE

I have looked through Internet Options in IE5. 5 & under the advanced section, i can't find the option of enabling more than 2 downloads at once in IE. I am sure there is an option where i can change it.
