Hi everyone, After i installed SP1 for win2k Pro (selecting to keep a backup of existing files during the installation), i realised that my hard drive had two extra folders named $UninstallServicePack and ServicePackFiles, both located under winnt folder.

Win 2k not shutting down properly.

Hi all. Perhaps this has been answered before. I'm having a problem with restarting or shutting down in w2k. After the initial shut down screen comes and goes, and the desktop disappears I am left on a black screen.

Hi everybody, I have this very strange problem with Windows 2000 SP1. As soon as I install SP1 on my computer, the computers never restarts and gives me the messages: INACCESSBILE BOOT DEVICE (again and again) and I have to reinstall windows.

"Always On Top" not always

Recently, items that should have the always on top property don't seem to be working properly. Namely, I am having trouble with the Start/Task Bar (especially when set to auto hide), and Hauppauge's WinTV when not in full window mode.

Expanded Control Panel All Messed Up!

My icons in the expanded control panel (start>settings>control Panel>. . . ) are all messed up. They all show as folders with jibberish text. When I open the full control panel in explorer, everything is ok.

Strange DivX problem....???

It like happens only on my computer, when i watch a divx movie. . . the picture stops from time to time but the sound goes on. . . if i scroll i bit forward the movie continues like normal. . . and then it maybe stops again.

1. Is Win2000 protocols tweaked? 2. Is the memory allocation the same in Windows2000 than in Winnt4. 0? I can see why most people goto Win2000 pro. It is much sleaker and faster. I just would like to know whats the difference than win9x and win2000.

Via 4in1 1.26 Ultra ATA controller problem?

When i installed the new Via 4in1 drivers in win2kpro, the drivers install some Via Ultra ATA controller drivers that replace the win2k ones for my MOBO. Everything works fine and looks good under device manager.

my problem is: i have a Terratec DMX Xfire (no that's not the problem *g*) My OS is win2k. My probs is that when i open media files after a long period (1-2 hours) of unuse the soundsystem the explore causes an error by creating the previewing and/or loading an avi.

Running a single cpu app on a dual cpu system

Does anyone know how to trick an application into thinking the machine only has one cpu. Nortel's Extranet does not install or run on dual CPU systems and I really do not want to have to remove one cpu to connect to a corporate network.

When I delete my temporary internet files I still get certain web sites in the url bar that will pop up when I'm typing in urls that start with the same letter. I've deleted all my temporary internet files and history.

MCI Error in Real Magic DVD station?

With some dvd movies when i try to play them i get an error that says: MCI Error! Cannot find the specified file. Make sure the path and filename are correct. Anyone know whats wrong? //Silent.

I re-imaged my machine. I had to add to the image because my IBM scsi drive was not showing, so I added the HPT 366 125 drivers and everything was AOK. . . . for 20 minutes then my pc just rebooted itself.

ok i have tried everything. my icons seem to be stuck at 16 color mode no matter what i do. it must be something in the registry, because everything i've tried has not worked. i know other people have this problem.

16-colors icons on 32bit desktop?

Hi I have Win2k pro I was running Quake 2 last night, which because I use a 3dfx V3-3000, crashed when I accidently pushed ALT-TAB. Well I started the game again and it ran fine. But when I came back to my desktop I found that all my icons where only in 16-colors (NOT 16bit).
