Owain D. Lloyd of The University of Cambridge has demonstrated a new RAID 0 technology christened Logical Zone Variable Striping or LZVS and has called on hard drive manufacturers to develop a capability to read backwards from the middle of the drive in order to further exploit this technology. A 14% performance improvement over traditional RAID 0 was demonstrated and the author is considering whether or not to make his Linux kernel extensions available to the public.

Microsoft has released a new build of Windows .NET Server to the beta testers. This is another interim build between Beta 3 and Release Candidate 1. Thanks NaTaN.
