Microsoft will offer two new security features to help prevent computer viruses from using its popular Outlook email program to infect computer networks and spread to other users.

Microsoft will soon provide Outlook upgrades that will prevent a piece of "executable code" from coming attached to email. The recent "love bug" virus, which spread via Microsoft software and infected more than 45 million computers included code attached to emails that destroyed files when opened, or executed.

On the heels of showing off a preview of Office 2001 for the Macintosh, Microsoft has begun soliciting beta testers for Office 10, the next release of the Windows version of its flagship desktop office suite.

Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq: MSFT) is telling testers the first beta of Office 10 will debut in July. In the interim, the company is fixing and patching Office 2000 and its individual components, such as Outlook 2000.

Microsoft has released another hit.

Microsoft:registered: Windows Media Player 7 beta offers new features and other improvements designed to transform users´ experience with digital media. Consumers can enjoy the player´s breakthrough audio and video quality, ease-of-use features and customizable interface. They can also use the player to do everything from playing CDs to watching videos to listening to Internet radio. The beta version of Windows Media Player 7 is available for download, and the final release is scheduled to be available later this year.
