Computer Associates this week rolled out back-up and disaster recovery software for Windows 2000 and Windows NT that also includes virus scanning and recovery services.

ARCserve 2000 allows serverless backup over the network; data flows directly between storage and the back-up device without impacting the server resources. It also can use the failover services of Microsoft Cluster Services (MSCS). Agents are available for Microsoft SQL Server that maintains transaction integrity in the event of failure. Users also can purchase agent software for Microsoft Exchange Server, Ingres, Lotus Notes and SAP R/3.

Microsoft on Monday will unveil a programming language aimed at improving productivity for the development of Web applications.

Initial reports indicate the new language, a hybrid of C and C++ called C# (pronounced cee-sharp), behaves much like Java, Sun Microsystems´ technology for cross-platform development. But Microsoft (stock: MSFT) executives insist C# does nothing of the kind.

UKGamer.net has posted their review on one of the most original and innovative Gold Finger devices on the market, Outside Loop´s Afterburner. The main difference of this device from the others is that it doesn´t have Jumpers or DIP switches, but dials that you turn. While this sounds a bit odd, the dials are a good improvement in usability and make changes much easier. This has to be one of the easiest ways to overclock your Athlon.
