Japanese electronics maker Sony Corp. said on Wednesday it will start providing licenses in September for its new compact disc format that has a storage capacity twice as big as conventional CDs.

Sony will cooperate with Dutch electronics group Philips Electronics NV in licensing the new CDs, enabling other firms to produce discs with the same format.

Antivirus experts have warned users to watch where they surf after the appearance of a virus that can be caught just by visiting a web page.

Kaspersky Labs today issued a warning about an internet worm called ´Jer´ that was placed on a website within the Geocities community. The worm´s author announced the website - entitled ´The 40 ways women fail in bed´ - on several internet relay chat (IRC) channels, attracting more than 1000 visitors on its first day.

Gateway has found a bug with computers containing the 1-GHz Athlon "Thunderbird" chip from Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) but is working to solve the problem and offering to fix affected computers.

The bug, which was discovered last week during internal testing, prompts computers containing the chip to "lock up," said a Gateway spokesman. Few computers with the 1-GHz Thunderbird have been shipped to customers, and the problem so far has cropped up with only a certain percentage of computers in the lab, the spokesman added. The company has not yet received reports of defects from customers.

Hexus has posted a press release from CPU-OC regarding the new system they are working on with OEM.

The first product to be produced >from this partnership will be a cooling case based on OEM´s Direct to Liquid system, this unit will cool any AMD/Intel CPU to below -20 and will be included in its own full tower case or as a kit, the cooler its-self will be small enough to fit in a single drive bay. A pre-production version of this unit is expected to be ready for testing in the next couple of weeks. Costs and release dates are not yet set but is expected to be under £300.00, half the price of the nearest competitors unit.
