This toolkit helps you bring the power of .NET to your existing VB6 applications, by allowing them to display .NET Forms and Controls from within the same application. Instead of upgrading the entire code base, these applications can now be extended one form at a time. The goal is a phased upgrade, with production releases at the end of each iteration containing both VB6 and VB.NET forms running in the same VB6 .exe process.

The Microsoft Developer Support Office Framer Control 1.3 Sample is a Visual C++ control sample, provided for developers working with Microsoft Office documents (such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, Visio drawings, Project files, or PowerPoint presentations) who would like to host such files inside a HTML web page, Visual Basic 6.0 UserForm, or Visual Basic or C# WinForm application. The control demonstrates hosting ActiveX Documents inside of a control window for host applications that do not natively support ActiveX Document embedding.

The sample comes with full source code and is meant as a demonstration. It has not been fully tested with all ActiveX Document servers, and is meant as a proof of concept. Developers interested in the approach can use the control sample as a base to start a custom project. The sample is provided "AS IS" and is not directly supported by Microsoft Customer Support Services.

This KB sample is capable of hosting the most common document types generated by Microsoft Office XP, Microsoft Office 2003, and Microsoft Office 2007.

The samples illustrate how you can add contact and group management functionality to your applications, leveraging existing contact repositories used by your business. The Contact Manager Client sample application demonstrates adding functionality to your custom applications, such as:

Add or remove groups
Add or remove contacts
Copy or move contacts between groups

Contact Manager uses a plug-in architecture that offers developers the ability to create custom libraries that can import contacts from various sources such as Microsoft Outlook or a Microsoft SQL Server database. Contact Manager has been built with a plug-in architecture that offers developers the ability to create custom libraries that can import contacts from various sources. A single plug-in that provides Active Directory searching has been included with the sample application to use as a reference point.

This download includes a fully functional sample application with source code, Hands on Lab, Code Walkthrough, and supporting documentation. The Hands on Lab is provided in C# and Visual Basic .NET.

Synchronization Services lets you synchronize data from disparate sources over two-tier, N-tier, and service-based architectures. Instead of only replicating a database and its schema, the Synchronization Services application programming interface (API) provides a set of components to synchronize data between data services and a local store. Applications are increasingly used on mobile clients, such as portable computers and devices, that do not have a consistent or reliable network connection to a central server. It is important for these applications to work against a local copy of data on the client. Equally important is the need to synchronize the local copy of the data with a central server when a network connection is available. The Synchronization Services API is modeled after the ADO.NET data access APIs and gives you an intuitive way to synchronize data. It makes building applications for occasionally connected environments a logical extension of building applications where you can depend on a consistent network connection.
