AMD Radeon RX 580 And RX 570 Mainstream GPU Reviews: High Performance Polaris

In preparation for the impending launch of AMD's next-generation Vega GPU architecture, which will eventually reside at the top of the company's graphics product stack, AMD is refreshing its mainstream graphics card line-up with some more-powerful Polaris-based offerings. In time, the new Radeon RX 580, RX 570, RX 560, and RX 550 cards launching today will supplant all of the current-generation Radeon RX 400-series cards, though these new cards are not radically different from their predecessors. Their clocks, shader counts, and memory configurations have been tweaked, but they’re still based on the same Polaris architecture and offer similar feature sets.

We’ve got the two premium cards in the lineup on hand for testing: the Radeon RX 580 and Radeon RX 570. In particular, we have the MSI Radeon RX 580 and RX 570 Gaming X in-house, both of which are customized and factory overclocked...

We review the ASUS Radeon RX 580 STRIX with 8GB graphics memory. This is the TOP OC edition that comes with maximum clocks. This three fan cooled mainstream graphics card series will allow you to play your games in both the Full HD 1080P range as well as gaming in WQHD (2560x1440) range. As always ASUS ROG has a few strix tricks up their sleeves. And all that at a rather reasonable price of roughly 269 USD. This review is all about Polaris 20, a code-name indicative of the mainstream Radeon RX 580 series, The new GPU is basically the same as the Radeon RX 480, it however is fabbed with a 3rd generation 14nm process which is a little more refined. That results into a GPU that can be clocked and boosted a notch faster. As such yes, AMD is refreshing their lineup. Actually four new models are released:

AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB and 8GB
AMD Radeon RX 560 2GB/4GB

PowerColor Radeon Red Devil RX 580 8GB Golden Sample Review

Cooling performance is going to be something you do not need to worry about with this new addition to the Red Devil family. A massive five heat pipe cooler easily handles the thermal load from the all-digital VRM, Ellesmere core, and 8GB of GDDR5 memory without missing a beat. Compared to last year's cooling solution, this beast of a cooler has it beat hands down. It is more compact, leading to a smaller overall footprint of the RX 580 8GB Golden Sample. By using a pair of 100mm ball bearing fans, the airflow is available to push through the heat sink without a lot of noise generated. In a less graphically intense game, the fans may not even spool up, thanks to the overall efficiency of the heat sink package. Smaller, quieter, and more efficient was the right choice by PowerColor.

2017 has been crazy and we are only a few months in really with multiple big launches from AMD. They launched their RX 400 series of cards last June and the excitement and hype has hardly slowed down in AMD groups. Now that Ryzen 7 and 5 are both out and with rumors of Vega starting to pick up AMD decided to slip in the 500 Series launch. This might be one of the worst kept secrets with cards being sold worldwide for the past week or two but today is the day we finally dive into it all officially. For the launch, AMD sent over the latest Sapphire Nitro+ RX580 in an 8GB Limited Edition version. So today I’m going to run through what the 500 Series is all about and then I’m going to test the Sapphire card and see how it compares. Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Nitro+ Limited Edition Review

Polaris given a new lease of life in the run-up to Vega. What to do in the lull between the Radeon RX 400-series cards and launch of RX Vega? You could do nothing, put your feet up, and wait for the Vega-powered GPUs to proliferate from the premium space to the mainstream. Such an approach would take time. On the other hand, you could take another look at the incumbent RX 400-series, find ways to make it better, and then release said GPUs under the RX 500-series banner.

Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ Limited Edition 8GB Review
