PeaZip 10.7.0 released
PeaZip 10.7.0 has recently been released, bringing significant improvements to its error-handling capabilities and allowing users to preview items within archives more efficiently.
Developed as a free file archiver utility and RAR extractor, PeaZip is designed for use on multiple platforms, including BSD, Linux, macOS, and Windows, making it an excellent alternative to proprietary software such as WinZip and WinRar. This versatile tool supports over 200 different archive types and variants, allowing users to handle spanned archives seamlessly.
One of the key strengths of PeaZip lies in its ability to work with a wide range of encryption standards, file hashing techniques, and console script export capabilities. Its open-source nature is also noteworthy, as it uses the LGPLv3 license, providing users with greater flexibility and control over their data.
In terms of compatibility, PeaZip boasts cross-platform support for various architectures, including x86-64, AArch64, Intel x86-64, and the Mx Apple Silicon SoC family. This broad range of compatibility allows it to run natively on BSD, Linux, macOS/Darwin, and Windows/Win64 platforms.
Security is also a top priority in PeaZip's design, with features such as strong encryption, two-factor authentication, an encrypted password manager, and secure deletion capabilities all working together to protect user data. Additionally, the tool utilizes powerful compression technologies from reputable open-source projects like 7-Zip/p7zip, FreeArc, PAQ/ZPAQ, PEA, UPX, Brotli, and Zstd.
The new release of PeaZip brings a substantial enhancement to its file manager capabilities, including improved dynamic virtual mode support on macOS, the ability to display image thumbnails across all platforms, and a new option for showing thumbnails on demand. Furthermore, integrated text viewer and image viewer tools have been added to enhance user experience.
To improve maintainability and readability of the codebase, extensive refactoring has taken place, involving rational renaming of main units, forms, and variables, as well as grouping related functions within sub-sections in larger units. Additionally, functions were relocated to specialized units whenever possible.
