PowerToys 0.95.1 released

Microsoft has rolled out PowerToys 0.95.1, a crucial patch release aimed at resolving several critical stability issues that surfaced in version 0.95.0 based on user feedback.

PowerToys has fixed numerous issues across its various components. One notable improvement was made to CmdPal - a tool that streamlines command execution. The developers identified two specific problems: crashes when working with filters (such as profiles in Windows Terminal or Windows Services) and incorrect application of window styles, including WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW. To address these issues, the development team removed runtime bindings from the FiltersDropDown control and refreshed cached window data.

Another significant update was made to Light Switch, which controls screen brightness based on ambient lighting conditions. The developers tackled several key bugs in this tool: enabling it by default (instead of disabling it), incorrectly overriding manual time schedules with sunset calculations, renaming "Manual" mode to "Fixed Hours" for clarity, and introducing an "Off" mode that disables the schedule while still allowing users to access Light Switch via a shortcut. They also fixed a bug that made the taskbar's accent color appear in light mode.

Furthermore, PowerToys addressed several problems with its Find My Mouse feature. Two critical bugs were fixed: losing focus on the window and making the mouse cursor appear as a busy hourglass. This ensures that users can maintain seamless interactions with their systems.

The installer also underwent significant changes to enhance build times. By removing WiX v3 infrastructure and migrating exclusively to WiX v5, developers have cut down on the time it takes for PowerToys to compile. Finally, improvements were made to the bug reporting system, as described by issue #42399, allowing users to report problems more effectively.
