Windows 11 Builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701 (Release Preview Channel) released
Microsoft just released some new updates for Windows 11, specifically builds 26100.7701 and 26200.7701. These are for the Release Preview Channel users on versions like 24H2 (build 26100) and 25H2 (build 26200).
So what's new? The main focus seems to be user experience, some AI touches, performance tweaks, and security fixes. One neat thing is called Cross-Device Resume. Basically, if you're signed in with the same Microsoft account across your Windows PC and your Android device, maybe an older phone or a work one, this lets you jump back into what you were doing on the PC from that Android side. Like picking up where you left off checking emails or browsing websites. It's handy for people who hop between gadgets often.
There are also changes related to Vivo phones, adding support for their browser there. For creators and musicians using Windows 11, MIDI services got a boost with better support for MIDI 0 and MIDI 2.0, plus some bug fixes. And Narrator users will be pleased; Microsoft added tools to customize the screen-reading settings, making it less intrusive.
Beyond that, you can now see key specs about your PC straight from the Settings home page. Good stuff. Smart App Control is easier too; administrators can turn it on or off without needing a fresh install each time. They'll also appreciate the streamlining of Voice Access setup for getting started with command controls.
The update itself fixes several headaches people might have encountered. For example, that annoying warning when logging out from multi-user setups has been squashed. Some had issues with Start appearing misaligned in Arabic or Hebrew languages; those seem handled now too. And if Explorer.exe felt sluggish on login, especially with network drives involved, you're probably good to go.
This is also a non-security patch rollout, bringing quality improvements and resolving some key problems users reported after installing it previously. One interesting addition is Secure Boot. On machines that have the Windows UEFI CA 2023 cert in their Secure Boot DB, this update will run those fixes automatically during boot-up itself, which is pretty clever.
Another security layer involves managing domain backup keys for DPAPI. Basically, admins can now set up automatic key rotation, which should help keep things more secure over time. And Microsoft nixed a few other tricky problems too: black screens in specific multiuser setups, Narrator not starting properly from an ISO install image, crashes during startup if the Boot Manager is debugging, and those pesky iSCSI boot errors where it says "Inaccessible Boot Device." There was also an issue with CRT libraries used by the Windows SDK that got sorted out.
