Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6690 (Beta Channel) released

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6690 has been released to the Beta Channel for Windows Insiders running Windows 11 24H2. This update brings several changes, improvements, and fixes that are being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have enabled the toggle to receive updates as soon as they become available.

One of the notable features in this build is the integration of Microsoft Copilot with Click to Do on PCs equipped with Copilot+. Users can now translate on-screen text using Microsoft Copilot's translation capabilities, making it easier to navigate languages different from their Windows display language or preferred settings. Additionally, users can access a context menu option to translate what's currently displayed on their screen into English.

Furthermore, the build introduces new taskbar capabilities with Microsoft Copilot, allowing users to quickly share an app window with Copilot and utilize its Vision feature to scan, analyze, and offer insights on the content displayed on that app. This feature is also available when mousing over the Microsoft Edge icon on the taskbar.

Another notable change in this build is the addition of "Learn more about this background" and "Next desktop background" options to the context menu when users click on their desktop if Windows Spotlight is chosen as their desktop background under Settings > Personalization > Background. This enhancement aims to make it easier for users to explore different backgrounds.

In terms of user experience, the Settings app has been refreshed to provide a more streamlined and unified way for users to manage their accounts across Windows and other applications.

Some fixes have also been implemented in this build, including

  • Resolving an issue where File Explorer became unresponsive if a UNC server name was directly typed into the address bar.
  • Addressing an issue that caused some Insiders to experience failure when installing the latest builds with error code 0x80070002.
  • Fixing audio issues that had been affecting users after recent updates.

However, there are also several known issues and areas for improvement. These include:

  • Launching Click to Do on a primary display via a right-edge gesture results in incorrect swipe visuals appearing on an alternate display.
  • Media controls may not be displayed on the lock screen.
  • Taskbar animations have been temporarily disabled due to interference with sharing windows from their preview.
  • Investigations are still ongoing regarding issues with the taskbar behavior when the "automatically hide the taskbar" feature is enabled.
  • Certain searches may display unexpected text instead of expected results and images.

Additionally, some external webcams may experience camera preview failures when enabling Windows Studio Effects due to compatibility issues between the camera firmware and Windows. This issue is being addressed in a future update.

For developers using PIX on Windows, GPU captures may not work correctly due to an issue with playback functionality. A new PIX release is estimated to arrive by the end of September, which will address this problem.

Lastly, some users may experience Settings app crashes when accessing drive information under Settings > System > Storage. This also affects accessing drive properties from File Explorer's right-click context menu.

Users experiencing issues with their Xbox Controllers via Bluetooth may resolve the issue by uninstalling the driver named "oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)" in Device Manager.
