Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6772 (Beta Channel) released

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6772 (KB5065797) to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel running Windows 11 24H2.

As part of its regular development process, Microsoft categorizes changes and updates into two groups: those rolling out gradually to Insiders who have enabled the toggle for receiving the latest updates as they become available (Settings > Windows Update) and those being rolled out to everyone in the Beta Channel. The Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post provides more information on these categories.

Innovations that are currently undergoing gradual rollout with the toggle on include several exciting new features that aim to enhance user experience. Click to Do, a feature that utilizes artificial intelligence and integrates with Copilot+, has been updated with two notable features: Image Object Select and Unit Conversion. The former enables users to quickly identify objects within images by simply hovering over their image, which allows for easier copying or pasting of those objects into other applications or initiating conversations with Copilot. The latter feature provides a convenient tool for unit conversions involving numbers accompanied by units.

Additionally, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security has been expanded to support peripheral fingerprint sensors in Windows 11 PCs, including desktops and Copilot+ PCs. Users can now plug in supported ESS fingerprint readers and enroll in the sign-in process under Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. This update aims to provide a more secure experience for users.

Other gradual rollouts include enhancements to File Explorer's dark mode experience, which now offers a consistent design across various actions like copy, move, and delete dialogs. Furthermore, Windows Setup Experience has been updated with the ability to customize the name of your default user folder during setup.

Microsoft is also rolling out changes and improvements that will become available in the Beta Channel, including further refinements to Click to Do and additional features for peripheral fingerprint sensors.

In terms of fixes, Microsoft has addressed several issues affecting Insiders. These include resolving an underlying problem causing multiple features to disappear unexpectedly on some Insider PCs after a previous flight, as well as fixing focus-related issues with app preview thumbnails, File Explorer dialogs not responding to increased text scaling, and various other bugs impacting the user experience.

However, there are still known issues that need attention. When you launch Click to Do using the right-edge gesture on your primary display, incorrect swipe visuals appear on the secondary display. A workaround for this issue is being investigated. Additionally, users may encounter problems with launching the touch keyboard on the login screen or finding unexpected text during searches.

Microsoft has identified several issues with Xbox Controllers and taskbar animations, which they plan to resolve in upcoming updates.

In summary, Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6772 brings a range of innovative features and improvements aimed at enhancing user experience. As always, users are encouraged to provide feedback in the Feedback Hub under Security and Privacy > Windows Hello Fingerprint for the new peripheral fingerprint sensors feature.
