Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6972 (Beta Channel) released
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26120.6972 to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel running Windows 11 24H2. This update is part of a phased rollout that includes new features, improvements, and fixes tailored for specific groups within the Beta Channel.
The phased rollout strategy is divided into two categories: changes gradually being rolled out to users who have enabled the toggle to receive updates as soon as they are available (Settings > Windows Update), and new features, improvements, and fixes made available to all Beta Channel participants. For more information on these changes, refer to the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post.
One significant enhancement in this build is that users can directly manage their mobile devices in Settings on their Windows PC by accessing the "Mobile Devices" option under Bluetooth & Devices. This page enables users to view and add new connected mobile devices, as well as access features such as using a device as a camera or viewing its files within File Explorer.
Another notable change is the addition of an entry point in the account control on the Start menu. This makes it easier for users to manage their Microsoft accounts.
Additionally, this build introduces updated branding and benefits for Game Pass plans within Settings. Furthermore, improvements have been made to the dark mode experience in File Explorer, resulting in a more consistent interface. Specifically, the Folder Options dialog now displays a uniform dark theme.
In terms of fixes, several issues have been addressed. One notable correction resolves an issue where File Explorer would display a Catastrophic Error (0x8000FFFF) when extracting large archive files. Another fix corrects an issue causing an old white toolbar to occasionally appear in File Explorer.
Several other fixes are also included:
- A problem was fixed where videos and games were unexpectedly displaying red, while another correction addressed issues with partially stuck on-screen content in apps and browsers.
- The performance of apps querying monitors for supported modes has been improved, which should help reduce stuttering on high-resolution monitors.
- A fix was also applied to an issue that caused updates to fail installing due to error 0x800f0983.
Lastly, a few known issues have been identified:
- A problem with text actions in Click to Do and Recall using Phi Silica is not functioning correctly on this build. A correction is forthcoming.
- The new animations on taskbar previews have been disabled temporarily due to interference with the ability to share windows from their preview.
- An issue causing the Start menu to fail to open upon click but responding to the Windows key press is being investigated. This issue may also impact the notification center.
Additionally, some Insiders are experiencing a bug where using an Xbox Controller via Bluetooth causes their PC to crash. To resolve this issue, users can uninstall the "oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)" driver within Device Manager.
Lastly, a few minor issues were reported:
- Copy progress may flash when clicking more or less details in the dark mode version of the copy dialog.
- The scrollbar and footer are missing and displaying a white block instead when text is scaled in the dark mode version of the copy dialog.
