Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6690 (Dev Channel) released

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6690 to the Dev Channel for Windows Insiders using version 25H2 of Windows 11. This update commemorates an important turn in the development process, as it introduces various new features and improvements that are being gradually rolled out to Insiders who have enabled the toggle to receive updates as they become available.

One notable change is the introduction of translation capabilities powered by Microsoft Copilot in Click to Do on Copilot+ PCs. This feature allows users to translate text on their screen with just a few clicks, making it easier for those who need to communicate across languages. Additionally, an option has been added to the context menu that enables users to translate text to English.

Another significant update is the ability to share screens with Microsoft Copilot directly in the taskbar. When hovering over an open app window on the taskbar, a new option will appear, allowing users to quickly start a conversation with Copilot and use its Vision feature to analyze and offer feedback about the screen content.

Furthermore, Microsoft has introduced a change in Desktop Spotlight that adds "Learn more about this background" and "Next desktop background" options to the context menu when clicking on the desktop. These updates aim to improve user experience and make it easier for users to navigate their desktop backgrounds.

In terms of settings and account management, Windows 11 now features an updated experience under Settings > Accounts that makes it simpler to add or manage multiple accounts in one place. The "Email & accounts" section has been renamed to "Your accounts," reflecting a more unified approach to managing user connections across Windows and various apps.

However, some fixes are also being gradually rolled out to the Dev Channel with the toggle enabled. For instance, issues related to File Explorer becoming unresponsive when typing UNC server names directly into the address bar have been resolved. Additionally, audio problems after recent updates should be fixed, although users experiencing ongoing audio issues may need to provide feedback and capture issue details.

Despite these improvements, some known issues persist in this build. One such problem occurs with Click to Do on primary displays via right-edge gestures, resulting in incorrect display visuals. The team is actively investigating this issue.

Other known problems include:

  • Media controls not displaying on the lock screen
  • Taskbar animations being temporarily disabled due to interference with sharing window functionality
  • System tray unexpectedly peeking up when "automatically hide the taskbar" is enabled
  • Certain searches showing unexpected text instead of expected results and images
  • Compatibility issues with external webcams when turning on Windows Studio Effects, resulting in camera preview failures
  • PIX on Windows unable to play back GPU captures due to an upcoming release

To address these challenges, Microsoft has provided various workarounds, including uninstalling the XboxGameControllerDriver.inf driver to resolve Bluetooth connectivity issues.
