Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6760 (Dev Channel) released
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6760 to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel running Windows 11 25H2. This build marks the latest installment in a series of updates designed to bring new features and improvements to the operating system.
Windows Insiders can expect two types of releases: gradual rollouts that are available immediately after enabling the toggle to receive the latest updates, as well as broader releases that will become available for everyone in the Dev Channel. To learn more about these release schedules, readers should refer to the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post.
Build 26220.6760 introduces several new features and improvements to various aspects of Windows 11. Notably, users can now access a built-in network speed test from the taskbar, allowing them to assess their network performance and troubleshoot any issues they may be experiencing. This tool is accessible via the Wi-Fi and Cellular Quick Settings pages or by right-clicking on the network icon in the system tray.
Additionally, Windows 11 will soon feature improved search capabilities within File Explorer, particularly for Copilot+ PCs. Insiders with these devices can expect to see an updated placeholder text in the File Explorer Search Box, designed to raise awareness of the enhanced Windows Search experience introduced earlier this year.
Microsoft is also working on several under-the-hood changes to improve the overall user experience. These include introducing StorageProvider APIs for cloud providers to integrate with File Explorer Home and temporarily turning off Emoji 16.0 until a future release. Furthermore, voice access will soon feature a new 'Wait time before acting' setting that allows users to configure the delay between issuing a voice command and its execution.
Other notable updates include improvements to Click to Do on Copilot+ PCs, where the tool may now invoke unexpectedly when pressing WIN + P. Microsoft has also fixed several issues affecting various aspects of Windows 11, including:
- A problem with screen readers being unable to read screen content after the latest flights.
- An issue where Click to Do may not work correctly in certain situations on Copilot+ PCs.
- A bug where the battery icon could become out of sync with the actual charging state.
- A problem where customized folder views were only applied to specific navigation paths, rather than all instances of that folder.
- An issue where media controls might not be displayed on the lock screen even when media was playing in an app.
Microsoft has also fixed several issues affecting Insiders who have enabled the toggle to receive updates as they become available. These include:
- A problem with Settings crashing for some users when accessing drive information under System > Storage.
- An issue where the placeholder text in the Settings search box could appear vertically misaligned.
For everyone in the Dev Channel, Microsoft has fixed several issues, including:
- A problem where you might be unable to connect to shared files and folders using the SMB v1 protocol on NetBIOS over TCP/IP NetBIOS (NetBT) after the latest updates.
- An issue that affected playback of protected content in certain Blu-ray, DVD, and digital TV apps.
Unfortunately, some known issues remain unresolved. These include:
- A problem with Click to Do where launching it via right-edge gesture on a primary display results in swipe visuals appearing on the incorrect display.
- Temporarily turned off animations on taskbar previews due to interference with window sharing.
- Issues with the system tray unexpectedly peeking up when "automatically hide the taskbar" is enabled, particularly after the previous flight.
- Unexpected text appearing instead of expected search results and images.
- A compatibility issue with some external webcams that causes a camera preview failure when using Windows Studio Effects.
Lastly, insiders who have an issue with their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth causing their PC to bugcheck should refer to Microsoft's guide on how to resolve the problem by uninstalling the XboxGameControllerDriver.inf driver.
