Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6772 (Dev Channel) released
Microsoft has rolled out Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6772 (KB5065797) to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, offering several new features, improvements, and fixes. The changes are categorized into three groups: new features gradually being rolled out with a toggle on for PCs that have it enabled, changes and improvements rolling out to the entire Dev Channel with the toggle on, and fixes for various issues.
One of the notable features being tested is Click to Do, which has been enhanced with two new capabilities. The first feature, Image Object Select, streamlines creative workflows by facilitating easy object selection within images. This can be done by hovering over an image to preview selectable areas and then selecting it for further action or copying and pasting it into other apps.
The second feature is Unit Conversion, which enables users to quickly access conversions for number + unit combinations displayed on screen. When a user hovers over such a combination, a floating tooltip appears with the conversion, while selecting it opens a context menu with additional options. This capability is currently only supported in Microsoft Copilot and not yet available in the European Economic Area or China.
Additionally, Windows Hello Enhanced Sign-in Security (ESS) has been expanded to support peripheral fingerprint sensors on Windows 11 PCs, including desktops and Copilot+ PCs. To take advantage of this feature, users can plug in a supported ESS fingerprint reader and enroll it by heading to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
Another notable change is the ability to name default user folders during the setup process. Users can customize their folder names by following specific steps in Command Prompt during OOBE (out-of-box experience). However, this feature will only be applied if a valid name is provided, and Windows will automatically generate a profile folder name from the user's Microsoft email address if no name is set.
In terms of File Explorer improvements, Microsoft has enhanced the dark mode experience with consistent designs for key actions like copy, move, and delete dialogs. The updates also include progress bars and chart views, as well as multiple confirmation and error dialogs in dark mode.
The Dev Channel is rolling out the fixes with the toggle on, addressing several issues. An underlying issue, which caused features to unexpectedly disappear from some Insider PCs after a previous flight, is the subject of one notable fix. Additionally, problems with the taskbar and system tray have been resolved, including issues where the system tray would peek up while the taskbar was hidden.
Other fixes include resolving focus-related issues when clicking on app preview thumbnails, fixing EFS-related dialogs in File Explorer that weren't responding to increased text scaling, and addressing camera preview failures for some external webcams. Microsoft has also fixed an issue causing certain network adapters to show incorrect link speeds, as well as a problem impacting the ability to start Hyper-V virtual machines with TPM on ARM64 devices.
However, there are still several known issues affecting Insiders in the Dev Channel. These include problems with Click to Do, lock and login screens, taskbar and system tray animations, search results, Xbox controllers, and device manager drivers.
To address some of these known issues, Microsoft provides workarounds for users to resolve specific problems. For instance, users experiencing an issue with their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth can uninstall the driver by opening Device Manager and finding the "oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)" driver, which they should then right-click on and select Uninstall.
