Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6982 (Dev Channel) released
Microsoft has recently unveiled Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.6982 to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, allowing them to test the latest features and updates before they become widely available.
As part of this build, several new features have been introduced or enhanced for Insiders in the Dev Channel. One notable addition is the "Copy & Search" feature, which enables users to instantly search the text they've copied into their clipboard with just a single click. This feature is triggered by a paste gleam that appears in the Windows Search box on the taskbar whenever text is copied from any application or document.
Another significant update is the introduction of a new "Wait time before acting" setting in Voice Typing, which allows users to configure the delay between voice commands and their execution. This feature will be particularly beneficial for users with varying speech patterns, as it enables more accurate recognition regardless of speaking speed.
The build also includes Proactive Memory Diagnostics, a new feature designed to improve system reliability by suggesting memory scans when a bugcheck (unexpected restart) occurs. If a user chooses to run the scan during their next reboot, it will take approximately 5 minutes or less and may potentially identify and mitigate any memory issues found.
Device Cards in Settings have been updated for better readability and streamlined navigation, while enhanced About settings now deliver a more structured experience, providing users with device insights and seamless access to related components. Additionally, the Settings search results flyout has been improved by adding a scrollbar to display all results without requiring a separate page.
Other notable changes include an update to Click to Do, which now includes helpful hints to assist unfamiliar users in discovering powerful actions that can be used quickly and intuitively. The Start menu flyout size has also been matched with the Windows Search flyout, creating a smoother transition when searching.
File Explorer Home on-hover actions are now available for enterprise customers, and File Explorer's search icon animation issue has been fixed. Furthermore, Windows Studio Effects now offers support on additional cameras as part of a gradual rollout to Insiders on Snapdragon-powered and AMD Copilot+ PCs.
Several fixes have also been rolled out in this build, including issues with text actions in Click to Do and Recall, hovering over the taskbar with a pen, voice access not working correctly, and the search icon in File Explorer infinitely looping. Additionally, widgets can now log in without encountering issues, and apps running as administrators will no longer have their text truncated.
However, there are also some known issues being investigated by Microsoft's team, including an issue affecting keyboards or USB devices for a small number of Insiders after the latest flights. The Start menu may not open properly for some Insiders on click, although it can be opened with the Windows key. Additionally, apps might not show in the system tray when they should be, and copy progress might flash in the dark mode version of the copy dialog.
