Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7051 (Dev and Beta Channels) released

Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7051 to Windows Insiders participating in both the Dev and Beta channels as part of its ongoing development process. To harmonize update releases, Microsoft will now offer identical updates based on Windows 11 version 25H2 to Insiders in the Beta Channel as a recommended update. This change allows those currently in the Dev Channel to switch to the Beta Channel for now.

This opportunity to switch between channels is limited and will only be available until the Dev Channel moves forward to a higher build number, at which point the channel switching window will close. As such, insiders are encouraged to carefully consider their channel preferences during this period.

Microsoft has also begun rolling out new features, including Ask Copilot in Taskbar, Full Screen Experience (FSE), and Shared Audio (Preview).

Ask Copilot in Taskbar allows users to access a range of functions, from apps and files to settings and chat suggestions, with just one click. This experience is designed to integrate seamlessly into the user's workflow while maintaining control over personal content. Users can enable this feature by visiting Settings > Personalization > Taskbar > Ask Copilot.

The Full Screen Experience (FSE) has also been expanded to support additional Windows 11 handheld devices in the market, offering users a distraction-free interface for gaming and other console-style navigation. To access FSE, users can go to Settings > Gaming > Full screen experience and select Xbox as their home app.

In addition, Microsoft is introducing Shared Audio (Preview), which enables family members or students to share music or watch movies together using Bluetooth LE Audio broadcast technology on Copilot+ PCs.

Furthermore, the Prism emulator has been updated to allow more 64-bit x86 applications to run under emulation by adding support for additional CPU features under emulation. This change is designed to enhance compatibility and performance.

The latest build also addresses several issues reported by Insiders, including keyboard and USB device problems, Start menu folder invisibility, File Explorer responsiveness, and slow login times. Additionally, the update fixes various other bugs related to screen readers, text rendering, protected content playback, and network upload speeds.

Microsoft is aware of two known issues:

  • An issue is causing the Start menu to not open for some Insiders when clicked on, although it will open with the Windows key.
  • An issue where certain apps may not display in the system tray.

Insiders are encouraged to submit feedback through the Feedback Hub under Desktop Environment > Ask Copilot in Taskbar and Gaming and Xbox > Gaming Handhelds.
