Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7653 (Beta Channel) released
Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7653 (KB5074157) to the Beta Channel, offering a fresh batch of changes and improvements for Insiders who have enabled the toggle to receive updates as they become available.
The company typically documents changes in two categories: features and fixes being gradually rolled out to Insiders with the toggle on, and new features rolling out to everyone in the Beta Channel. Readers can refer to the Reminders section at the bottom of this blog post for further information.
The modern WinUI framework now powers the refreshed Account Settings dialogs, which also support dark mode. This change applies specifically to work or school accounts, where users will notice a sleek new design when adding or changing their account type.
Click to Do has also received an improvement, with Copilot prompt suggestions now loading instantly, although this feature is not yet available to Windows Insiders in the EEA (European Economic Area) or China. In related news, .webp images are now supported for desktop backgrounds in Settings > Personalization > Desktop Background.
As part of the gradual rollout with the toggle on, several fixes have been implemented across various areas of the operating system. For instance, the Taskbar and System Tray issues, which included apps being blocked from use when interacting with the bottom of the screen or failing to open on click, have been addressed.
Additional fixes include a memory leak that could lead to performance issues over time when opening the Start menu, as well as issues affecting Arabic and Hebrew users where the Start menu was opening on the wrong side of the screen. Furthermore, an issue has been fixed where trying to pan a folder of pinned apps in the Start menu with touch would dismiss the menu.
Other notable fixes include resolving the Bluetooth device battery level display for some Insiders, fixing unexpected app and game behavior when using the full-screen experience (FSE), and addressing several issues: password icons appearing blank on login screens, Settings crashing when interacting with audio devices, and the keyboard character repeat delay being reversed in Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Keyboard.
In other areas of the operating system, several issues have been fixed, including clipped text in msinfo32 when using a high display scaling, MSIX package installation failing unexpectedly, and Notepad not displaying an underscore in text with certain fonts at 125% display settings. An underlying issue has also been resolved that was causing explorer.exe to hang when first logging into the PC if certain apps were configured as startup applications.
Finally, several known issues are still being investigated or worked on, including unexpected app behavior when using FSE, system tray icons failing to appear for some Insiders, and display and graphics issues affecting secondary monitors. A correction is also in the works for an issue where the Microsoft 365 Copilot prompt box on selected images does not function if the Microsoft 365 Copilot app is not running.
