Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7670 (Beta Channel) released
Microsoft just released Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7670 (that's KB5074169) to Windows Insiders in its Beta Channel.
On the plus side, they've fixed a few things:
- You're probably already used to it, but File Explorer gets slightly better: The "Extract All" option shows up properly when looking at folders that aren't ZIP files.
- Clicking the Start menu button sometimes wouldn't work quite right if you'd hidden the pane. A fix for this should make things smoother.
Search got a tweak too; the magnifying glass looks correct again, with no more X icon confusion. And they've dug into performance stuff in Settings to try and speed up that Home page load time, fixing issues some of us saw before.
Display problems were also addressed. If you happened to be one of those Insiders who saw black screens on their secondary monitor after the last updates, maybe give it a shot again if you're still affected; this might have been part of the fix.
Beyond that, there are some underlying fixes for Azure Virtual Desktop and Windows 365 related to sign-in issues. And Microsoft says they've ironed out an error causing those pesky bug checks with a SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION message, though it sounds like they're still digging into why these specific glitches occurred in the first place.
Now, even though things are looking better overall, there are still some rough patches for Insiders:
- The Start menu Categories view might be tricky sometimes. Clicking an item could potentially fail to load.
- Related to that, you might find a category that won't let you show more apps within it.
Some unexpected behavior pops up with how certain apps work in the Xbox full-screen mode, especially if they're expecting a specific size or opening extra windows. The Taskbar & System Tray isn't perfect either: Some programs just aren't showing up properly where they should be, according to reports from Insiders.
Finally, there's an issue with Click to Do and Microsoft 365 Copilot specifically when you open the prompt box for a selected image. That function seems off there, at least some of the time.
