Windows 11 Insider Build 26220.8138 changes bring touchpad zone controls and task manager updates
The latest Beta Channel update for Windows 11 brings specific tweaks that matter more than the usual bug fixes. Users should check their settings for new touchpad options and look at what is happening under the hood in Task Manager. This build focuses on privacy protections and AI resource monitoring rather than flashy new design elements found in other versions of Windows 11 Insider Build 26220.8138.
Administrator protection moves to the settings menu for easier access
IT admins previously enabled this feature, but now regular users can activate it directly from Settings under Privacy & security > Windows Security > Account protection. A restart will be required after switching the toggle to on so changes take effect across the system. Many people struggle with accidental admin changes after driver updates or software installs which is why having this control in the main menu makes sense now that the rollout stabilizes.
Touchpad right click zones finally getting adjustable sizes in Windows 11 Insider Build 26220.8138
A new setting appears in Settings > Bluetooth & Devices > Touchpad so users can choose how large the right-click zone size is between default, small, medium, and large. This option only shows up for touchpads that have a pressable surface for this specific function while some manufacturers may provide customization in their own apps. If a custom value exists from an app like this then a Custom entry will be added to the dropdown which preserves that value without resetting it. Feedback can be shared in Feedback Hub under Input and Language > Touchpad.
Task Manager now shows NPU usage and isolation details
The update provides better insight into NPU usage for PCs that include an NPU with new optional columns available on Processes, Users, and Details pages. New optional NPU Dedicated Memory and NPU Shared Memory columns appear on the Details page to give deeper visibility into how workloads are using NPU resources. Additionally if there are neural engines part of a GPU they will now appear on the Performance page providing a more complete view of AI related system activity. An Isolation column also gets added to the Processes and Details pages allowing users to see which apps run in an AppContainer when available for them.
Quick fixes for Braille and display language issues
Addressed an issue impacting the use of Braille for Insiders in the last few flights so accessibility tools should work as expected again. Another fix addresses an issue resulting in Windows displaying in English for some Insiders rather than their preferred language setting. These patches ensure things do not break for multilingual users or those relying on assistive technology during normal daily operations.
